feminism, technology, heckling
So this blog started out from actually having a week to hang out and talk shit about life, politics, work and things on screens. Both c5 & I used to write in the early days of blogging – when blogs were still mentioned in inverted commas and passed on in barely contained utopian excitement for Free Speech of the Silenced Masses, whee! – and have been toying with the idea of starting a joint heckling space for things we like, including geeking out and being feminists, hah. So here we are.
We were meant to do this semi seriously, with editorial schedules and jotted down ideas for writing for the next 3 months. But clearly actions dissipate a lot faster than ideas. So this is me trying, by writing the first post about nothing much really, except why we started this.
I used to like reading Fword, because it talked about feminism in everyday things. Movies, books, latest theorists and obsessions. And it sounded relevant, and smart, and not full of ‘old’ people trying to run the conversation. There weren’t many spaces for conversations like these then, But now there’s a lot more. I just stumbled into this hilarious post while trying to look up “feminists who don’t smoke” (first week quitting smoking, and my therapist says glory or death? fucking hell): Autostraddle.

I like how any time someone starts a sentence with “I respect feminism, but…” you know what follows immediately after pretty much guarantees they don’t respect feminism. Also that you would be justified in punching them in the throat a little bit.
Yo, is throat punching feminist?

Only if you scream “for the Goddess!” as you do it.
